NOVEMBER 04, 2020

Temporary Schedule Adjustments

Please keep in mind that our in-person appointment availability is subject to change, especially if tutors become ill or are required to quarantine or if we experience inclement weather conditions (note: if SWOSU closes campus due to inclement weather, the writing center is closed, too). If our open appointment slots do not quite match up with our usual availability, we ask for your patience. Please keep in mind, too, that tutors are still working online via email and Upswing; if you are unable to schedule an in-person appointment at your desired time, we encourage you to consider these online options instead.

No in-person appointments are available on Friday, November 6.

The SWOSU Writing Center is offering online consultations ONLY for the Summer 2020 Semester

The Writing Center is OPEN for the summer semester. We are conducting online consultations through two options:

Online Consultations via UpSwing

We are excited to announce that our tutors are now available on the UpSwing platform for both synchronous and asynchronous consultations. Once you are logged in your GoSWOSU account, click the "Upswing" button, which will take you to the landing page. From there, you can choose to upload a paper for review (asynchronous), answer a few questions about the assignment, and then wait for a response, or you can look for available tutors for a live chat (synchronous)--you can find a tutor right when you need one or choose to make an appointment for a later time.

To work with SWOSU Writing Center tutors specifically, be sure to look for Lauren Brown and Arianna Martin this summer!

Online Consultations via Email

We are still offering communication via email for students who are having trouble with the Upswing platform. To submit an email consultation request, please email your draft to writingcenter@swosu.edu as an attached file and answer the following questions in the body of the email:

  1. What was the assignment for this paper?
  2. When is the assignment or project due?
  3. What citation and formatting style is required for this paper?
  4. Is this an early draft or a later, revised version?
  5. How can we help you with this paper?.

We ask that you submit .doc or .docx files and use your SWOSU email if at all possible.

If you are submitting a paper more than four pages long, we reserve the right to review a four-page section of your paper in addition to your Works Cited or References list during busy consultation times. We will respond to the first four pages with comments you can apply to the whole draft as you revise. If you would like for us to focus on a specific four pages within the draft (instead of the first four pages), please tell us in your e-mail when you submit the draft for review.

We will respond to e-mails during our regularly scheduled tutoring hours as quickly as possible. We will respond to your request as quickly as possible (usually within 24 to 48 hours), but please understand that it could take up to three or more days to receive a response during busy times of the semester, especially if you send an e-mail during a campus break.

The SWOSU Writing Center is closed for the remainder of the Spring Semester

As of Wednesday, March 25, SWOSU has placed all student workers on administrative leave for the remainder of the Spring semester, which means our tutoring staff is no longer allowed to work (in person or online). At this point, we recommend you try using Upswing for writing assistance. Upswing is SWOSU's supplemental online tutoring platform and is available at http://swosu.upswing.io

If the university decides to allow our tutors to work again in the near future, we will let you know.

Thank you for your understanding.

If you would like to email the Writing Center Coordinator directly with questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Denise Landrum-Geyer at denise.landrumgeyer@swosu.edu.
